Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions Yannic Fréson 3D, a 3D printing service for the Heist-op-den-Berg area in Belgium, expects most often: on files, materials, price, terms, and delivery or shipping. The service prints with FDM in PLA, PETG and ABS/ASA, from €10 per order, in 3 to 5 working days. Each answer points to the page with the details.

Ordering, files and design

Do you print for private individuals, or only for businesses?

For both. One part for a private customer is as welcome as a batch for a small business. The smallest order is €10, and you do not need a company number for it. See what you can have printed.

How many files can I upload and how large can they be?

Up to five files per request, of at most 50 MB each. The form accepts STL, 3MF, STEP and OBJ and, to clarify what you mean, PDF, JPG and PNG. Which format is best is on the page about printing your file.

Can you 3D scan an existing object?

No, Yannic Fréson 3D has no 3D scanner. A technical part is measured with callipers and redrawn at €60 per hour. For figurines and free-form shapes you need a scanning bureau. More about having a replacement part made.

Can I order a design from the portfolio?

Yes. The portfolio designs have no fixed price, but you can request a quote for one, in another colour or size if you like. Say in your request which piece from the portfolio you mean.

Are there things you refuse to print?

Yes. Yannic Fréson 3D does not print weapon parts, toys for young children, objects for contact with food or safety-critical parts. Characters and logos of brands you hold no rights to are not printed either.

Materials and quality

Can you see the layers on a 3D print?

Yes. An FDM print is built up in 0.2 mm layers, and up close they can be seen and felt. They show least in matte PLA. What else the printer can and cannot do is listed with the equipment on the about page.

Can I sand or paint a 3D print myself?

Yes. PLA can be sanded and, after a primer, painted with acrylic or spray paint. You do that yourself: sanding and painting are not part of the finishing at Yannic Fréson 3D. If you want colour without paint, see printing in up to four colours.

Can a 3D print stay outdoors?

In the right material, yes. PLA is not made for it: it softens in the sun. For outdoors Yannic Fréson 3D prints in ASA, which withstands UV light and rain. Read more about ABS and ASA on the materials page.

Do you print cookie cutters, cups or other kitchenware?

No. None of the materials at Yannic Fréson 3D has a food-contact certificate, and the layers of an FDM print hold residue. That applies to PETG as well, even though it descends from bottle plastic. The limits per material are on the materials page.

Which colours do you have in stock?

Thirteen colours of PLA: ten matte, two wood-filled and one silk. Yellow and blue are not among them. Other colours and every colour of PETG, ABS and ASA are ordered on request. The full shelf is on the materials page.

Price, payment and terms

Can I return my order if I don't like it?

No. A print is made to your order and to your specifications, and the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to that. Your legal rights if a print is not right are in the terms and conditions.

What happens if the print fails?

What happens with a print that is not right is set out in the terms and conditions. They also describe what applies when a fast prototype fails during printing.

Do I pay less if I order several different parts at once?

Yes. The start-up fee is charged once per order, not per part. Three different parts in one order are therefore cheaper than three separate orders. The breakdown is on the page with 3D printing prices.

What is the difference between a standard print and a fast prototype?

A standard print is finished and ready in 3 to 5 working days. A fast prototype is printed on the printer's faster speed profile and handed over without finishing, in 1 to 2 working days for a part that prints within a day. It is cheaper and rougher, and meant for checking shape and fit. The comparison is on the page about prototypes and small batches.

What does a rush print cost?

A rush print costs a surcharge on the price of the print and is only possible when the printer is free. The normal lead time is 3 to 5 working days. The surcharge is in the rate card on the pricing page; mention your deadline in your request. A rush cannot be combined with a fast prototype.

Delivery and shipping

Do you have a shop or opening hours?

No. Yannic Fréson 3D is a service without a shop or visiting address. Everything goes by email, phone or message, and your order is delivered to your door in the Heist-op-den-Berg area or shipped. Contact details are on the contact page.

Do you deliver 3D prints to my door?

In Heist-op-den-Berg, Hulshout, Begijnendijk, Herselt and Tremelo, yes: by appointment, for €3, free from an order value of €25. In Aarschot, Westerlo, Putte, Keerbergen, Berlaar, Nijlen, Lier and Herentals delivery is by arrangement, with the price in the quote. Elsewhere the order is shipped. See where delivery and shipping apply.

Do you ship 3D prints to the Netherlands?

Yes. Yannic Fréson 3D ships within Belgium, to the Netherlands and to other EU countries. The rates per destination are in the shipping table on the page about delivery and shipping.

How is a 3D print packed for shipping?

In a sturdy box with padding around the part. Thin and protruding sections get extra protection.
