Print your STL, 3MF or STEP file

Yannic Fréson 3D, a 3D printing service for the Heist-op-den-Berg area in Belgium, prints your STL, 3MF or STEP file in PLA, PETG or ABS/ASA, in up to four colours and up to 256 × 256 × 256 mm. Once you approve the quote, your print is ready in 3 to 5 working days, then delivered or shipped.

What you get

  • A look at printability before the quote

Before the quote your file is looked at for printability: holes, walls that are too thin, overhangs. You remain responsible for the dimensions and the function of your design.

  • Settings that suit the part

Orientation, supports, infill and wall thickness are chosen according to what the part has to do. If you have preferences of your own, add them to your message.

  • A finished print

Supports removed and edges tidied. Sanding and painting are not included; you are better at those than you think.

What happens to your file

A file goes through four steps between upload and build plate. None of them is fully automatic: each one gets a human look.

  1. Open and measure

An STL file has no units. Millimetres are assumed and the dimensions compared with what you write in your message.

  2. Check for printability

Is the model closed, are the walls thick enough, where are supports needed and does it fit on the 256 × 256 mm build plate?

  3. Slice

The software cuts the model into 0.2 mm layers and works out weight and print time. Your quote is based on those two figures.

  4. Print after your approval

The printer only starts once you have agreed. Your file is used for your own order and nothing else.

What makes a file printable

A model that looks right on screen is not necessarily printable. An FDM printer builds from the bottom up and cannot start in mid-air. Fine relief like the film strip on this drawer works because it is designed to lie flat on the build plate. If a part overhangs too far, it needs supports, which are removed afterwards and leave a rougher surface behind.

STL, 3MF or STEP: which format to send

Yannic Fréson 3D accepts STL, 3MF and STEP. An STL holds only the shape, with no units or colours. A 3MF also stores units and colour areas, which is useful for prints in several colours. A STEP holds the exact geometry and is the best format if a dimension still has to change.

If you have the choice, send a STEP or a 3MF. An STL works too, as long as you mention the most important dimension in your message. That way a 40 mm knob does not accidentally come out as a 40 inch knob. It would not fit on the build plate anyway.

The form takes up to five files of at most 50 MB each. If something about the model has to change, that is design work: see 3D design on request.

Good to know

Yannic Fréson 3D prints files up to 256 × 256 × 256 mm in one piece, with 0.2 mm layers and a 0.4 mm nozzle as standard. PLA is in stock in thirteen colours; PETG, ABS and ASA are ordered on request. Resin, metal and SLS nylon are not possible.

Formats
STL, 3MF, STEP. Up to 5 files of at most 50 MB each per request.
Largest part
256 × 256 × 256 mm. Larger only if the model is split into sections.
Layer height
0.2 mm as standard, with a 0.4 mm nozzle. Layers stay visible and can be felt.
Colours
Thirteen colours of PLA in stock, up to four per object. Other colours to order.
Accuracy
FDM is not machining. Draw in some clearance where parts have to fit together.
Rights
Only send models you are allowed to have printed. Check the licence of downloaded files.

Questions about files

All frequently asked questions

Which file formats can I send?

STL, 3MF and STEP are the three formats for printing. The form also accepts OBJ and, to clarify what you mean, PDF, JPG and PNG. If you have something else, such as a Fusion or SketchUp file, export it to STEP or STL first.

What if my STL file has errors?

If your file has errors, you hear about it before the quote. Changes are design work at €60 per hour, and whether to go ahead is up to you.

Can I have a model from Printables or Thingiverse printed?

Yes, if the model's licence allows it. Most free models may be printed for your own use; selling them is often excluded. Send the link along, so it is clear straight away which version you mean.

Can I choose the layer height and infill myself?

Yes. The standard is 0.2 mm layers, with the infill chosen according to use. If you want something different, say so in your request. A different setting changes weight and print time, and therefore the price.

Upload your file
